Word and Utopia, a story told by Manoel de Oliveira about Padre António Vieira, a jesuit priest from the 1600s, was filmed in Brazil, Portugal and Rome, places where the Priest went. Having been a visionary, a critic, but not always understood by the church, he was a friend and confidant to King John IV, he resisted the Inquisition and preached for the freedom of the Amerindians and the slaves at the time of the Portuguese colonization. He was a man wth a gift for wirds that fought for an utopia: the myth of the Fifth Empire.
